2012

"Mayan shaman, anthropologist, and professor Lina Barrios spoke tonight in Santa Fe about the wisdom of her Guatemalan Mayan culture, and their understanding of 2012. To the Maya, 2012 is the beginning of a new age, and not the end of the world. Lina’s daughter asked a Mayan elder why people in other cultures thought it was the end of the world, and the old shaman said, “Well, if you live on the 40th floor of a building in the city, and there’s energy shortages and your elevator doesn’t work and you have to continually climb 40 flights of stairs, it’s more or less the end of your world. If you work at a big distance from your home and there’s a gasoline shortage, that can be the end of your world.”
